Audience Feedback: Facebook

I uploaded my media product onto Facebook in order to get opinions from my friends through social networking. I thought that this would be appropriate to do as most of my friends on Facebook are similar to the demographical age i am aiming my media product at.

Some of the feedback i received was:

  • 3 people 'liking' my video upload.
  • "it's good but there's like 10 minutes of nothing too"
  • "that's sick! i well like it"
  • "very good, i like the music!"
After receiving feedback from my demographic i took on their comments and fixed the excess blank footage that was attached to my media product.

Changes Made to our Soap Trailer

We made a few changes to or soap trailer after receiving our audience feedback.

This music has a faster pace than our previous music; which was preferred by the younger audience.

  • We also cut our soap trailer from 1 min 41 secs to 1 min.
This made our soap trailer a lot faster and to the point.

  • We added titles to each individual character section to make their story line more clearer. We added 'New Start', 'New Enemies', 'New Heart Breaks' and 'New Life'. We placed a lot of emphasis on the word 'new' as it also highlights that our soap trailer is new.

Audience Feedback

We got audience feedback from our teachers, students and members of our families.

We created a questionnaire that consisted on ten questions:

1-After watching the trailer would you say the trailer is advertising the soap genre?
2-Would you watch the soap after watching this trailer?
3-Is the music appropriate?
4-Should there be text with the voice-overs?
5-Is the trailer the right length?
6-Are there enough stereotypical characters for a soap?
7-Is there a variety of shot types?
8-Is there anything that could be improved?
9-What works well?
10-Is the editing appropriate?

Answers:
1- 7 out of 10 said yes.
2- 5 out of 10 said yes.
3- 8 out of 10 said yes.
4- 2 out of 10 said yes.
5- 9 out of 10 said yes.
6- 8 out of 10 said yes.
7- 9 out of 10 said yes.
8- Students said:
    *length
    *improve voice-overs
    *make story-line clearer
9- Students said:
    *shot types
    *transitions
10- 9 out of 10 said yes.

Overall, from all my feedback including the questionnaire i gathered that:

Positive things:
-Variety of camera angles.
-Good voice over.
-Variety of different characters.

Negative things:
-Bit too long.
-Music was not fast enough.
-Character's story line's were not that clear.

Editing our Soap Trailer: Visual Effects

The visual effects we used were:

  • Slow Motion- This effect placed emphasis on certain significant parts. We used this when there is a fight in the soap trailer. The slow motion exaggerates the action in the trailer and makes it appear more powerful.
  • Shake- This effect made the camera visually move, creating a sense of confusion or dis-orientation. We used this effect when Mark shook/pushed away his girlfriend- it is quite effective as it almost makes the audience feel or experience what the characters are going through.
The transitions we used were:

  • Cross Dissolve
  • Blur
  • Directional Angle

We used these effects and transitions as they made the soap trailer visually exciting as well as moving the pace of the trailer on. The trailer appears faster with effects and transitions; therefore, this makes the trailer's pace fast and exciting as well as appealing more to the audience.

Editing our Soap Trailer: Title Screen

In our editing we needed a title screen at the end of our soap trailer which would advertise the name of the soap.

We looked at a traditional BBC title screen as that is the channel we want our soap to be broadcast on:

However, as we are aiming at a younger audience we decided to use a blue title screen instead of the traditional red one as this would stand out against the other competition on BBC one.
